The culture at Sqills

Our structure is flat, you can talk to the people who built the company, and it’s genuinely possible to change roles or shape your job over time.

We invest in our community too, with an internal conference, staff trips, regular lunches, and the kind of impromptu events that are often decided and organised by colleagues.

We offer flexibility that helps people keep life and work aligned, including the option to work abroad for a period each year.

Keep growing - keep developing

Roles at Sqills are clear, but the boundaries are not rigid. If you are a developer who wants to lean into testing, architecture, or product thinking, you will find space to do that. If you are a tester who wants to build frameworks, influence quality strategy, or grow towards a different role over time, you are not stuck in a box. We care more about impact and ownership than being able to keep everyone in a neat organisation chart.

That flexibility also shows up in how people grow. Switching teams, taking on a split role, or gradually shifting your focus is normal here, especially as you learn more about the product and where you can contribute most. We hire for curiosity and responsibility, then we give you room to shape a path that fits your strengths and the problems you want to solve.

Our education budget isn't just for certifications; use it for conferences, courses, or that workshop that you have wanted to follow for a while. Our FlexBudget gives you a choice in your compensation, do you choose more money or more days off? And yes, we pay referral bonuses because good people know good people. Small detail that matters: overtime is actively discouraged.

Not too big - not too small

At around 240 people, we have hit that sweet spot. We are large enough that our software powers major international rail networks and we can tackle genuinely complex technical challenges. However, we are small enough that you will know most people's names within six months, understand how your work connects to theirs, and know exactly who you should talk to when you have a problem.

Unlike a 20-person startup, we have stable customers, proven revenue, and the backing to think long-term. This means you can have a real impact without the chaos.
