Job description

Front end Developer

You make it even better

Full-time

Are you someone who doesn’t just want to build new things, but who takes real pride in understanding and improving software that’s already running? Do you want your front-end work to have a direct impact on the journeys of millions of passengers every day?

That, and more, is what Sqills can offer you. We’re looking for an experienced front-end developer ready to take ownership of a product that’s been evolving for years. Our S3 Passenger platform is used by public transport operators across the world, and its retail front-end is maintained and actively developed by a focused team. The codebase has history and runs on a developer toolchain built around TypeScript, React and Webpack.

What will you do?

You will be part of an agile team focused on front-end development, responsible for both developing and maintaining the retailing components within Sqills. This gives you the opportunity to improve things that are already in use by public transport operators, while also contributing to new capabilities being built from the ground up. If you enjoy challenges, understanding complex systems, and making a direct impact on the end customer, this role is a great fit for you.

In this position, you’ll work with a codebase that has real depth. Working with TypeScript, React and Webpack, you’ll collaborate closely with other developers to build and maintain UI applications for the public transport sector.

Some things you are responsible for include:

  • Develop and maintain scalable front-end components using TypeScript, React and Webpack;

  • Work with an existing codebase — reading, understanding, and improving it where it counts;

  • Write clean, maintainable and efficient code following team and industry standards;

  • Participate in the design and development of new features and capabilities for the S3 Passenger platform;

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and ensure timely delivery of high-quality software;

  • Identify and resolve technical issues and bugs, including in parts of the codebase you didn’t write.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Bachelor’s degree in both working and technical proficiency (e.g. HBO ICT, Computer Science, Business Intelligence, Technical Management);

  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience with front-end development in production environments;

  • Strong expertise in TypeScript and React; solid knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript;

  • Experience with modern build tooling; Webpack or similar frameworks is a plus;

  • Comfortable working with existing codebases, and patient enough to understand them before changing them;

  • Good understanding of software development best practices, including unit testing, continuous integration, and continuous deployment;

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently.

What can you expect from Sqills:

  • An enthusiastic, young, and diverse group of ~250 colleagues worldwide.

  • A flat hierarchy with a lot of individual responsibility and room for your ideas.

  • An open and challenging environment for ambitious professionals.

  • Great benefits including a FlexBudget, supplementary pension, and lunch in our Grand Café.

  • Inspiring company outings and Friday drinks on our roof terrace.

Curious?

This is an exciting opportunity to work on a high-impact product and contribute directly to public transport operations around the world. If you are a driven front-end developer looking for a role with real ownership, we would love to hear from you.

We can only consider applications from Dutch, EU/EEA or Swiss citizens, or from individuals who already hold a valid residence and work permit for the Netherlands.
